Borussia Dortmund right-back Lukasz Piszczek is hoping to end five months of pain by the end of this year, as the Pole plans his comeback from injury.

Piszczek is currently in rehabilitation after undergoing groin and hip surgery at the end of last season.

Initial speculation had put his comeback period at the start of 2014, but the 28-year-old is looking increasingly confident on an earlier return.

"The five months were long and not always easy", Piszczek told Der Westen. "But now the end is in sight.

"I hope it works out this year with the comeback.

"I had prepared myself mentally for the long break. I have previously played with pain, knew that the break comes and that patience is required.

"It's been difficult and a very different situation [watching from the stands]. You always want to join in and help when you see a situation."

The Poland international was subject to some transfer interest from Real Madrid last season, but responded with a contract extension until 2017.
