Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has returned prematurely from international duty after an ankle injury did not heal in time for tonight's friendly.

Robben picked up a slight niggle during a warm-up though he did manage to play and score a goal in Holland's 2-2 draw against Japan on Saturday.

However, with the injury looking worse than initially expected, Robben has returned to his club and Holland will be without him when they take on Colombia later today.

Holland coach Louis van Gaal was yesterday quoted by the Algemeen Dagblad as saying: "There is still fluid in [his] ankle.

"This game [against Colombia] comes too soon but I think he can play in the upcoming weekend."

The last statement will bring a measure of relief for Bayern Munich who will face title-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Robben has already clocked up three goals and three assists in 10 Bundesliga games this season for Bayern Munich.
