The initial expectations were of Blaszczykowski staying out for between six and nine months, though Dortmund are hoping to have him back by the summer.

A club statement read: "Blaszczykowski’s injury was confirmed following a scan at the Knappschaft Hospital in Dortmund on Sunday. The Poland international will undergo surgery in the next few days.
