Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has played down talk of an imminent deal for Inter Milan striker Ishak Belfodil.

The Algerian was understood to be due a medical at Loftus Road today, after both clubs seemingly reached an agreement.

Belfodil had previously looked set to join West Ham, only for the player's co-owners, Parma, to scupper the deal.

And despite talk of QPR being clear favourites now, Redknapp sought to distance himself from any notion that the transfer was all-but-confirmed.

"I'm not sure where we're at with it – [chief executive] Phil Beard and chairman [Tony Fernandes] have dealt with it", Redknapp told a press conference.

"He's a player we're interested in but I couldn't sit here and say how close it is or isn't. I've not got involved with the dealing with the clubs, so I'm not sure what the problems are."

Regardless, Redknapp is hoping Belfodil can, indeed, secure the switch given QPR are aiming for a quickfire promotion and currently sit second in the Championship table.

"He's a frontman and we've been looking for one", Redknapp added. "We've got Charlie [Austin], and Andy Johnson’s getting fitter, which is good, and Bobby Zamora as well. So [Belfodil will] give us another option."
