Cardiff City are close to selling Andreas Cornelius back to FC Copenhagen, according to the Danish club, with a loss expected on the striker.

Cornelius had joined Cardiff last summer for a fee reported to be nearing €9m, but has struggled to show his best form.

Now, with Cardiff under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Cornelius is set for an FCK return after going goalless in all his eight Premier League appearances.

A short statement from FCK today on their Twitter feed read: "FC Copenhagen announce that the club is close to closing a deal with Andreas Cornelius. More to follow in the coming days."

The 20-year-old is expected to be sold back for nearly a third of his original transfer fee.

Cornelius had spent all his professional career with FCK prior to joining former Cardiff manager Malky Mackay.

He arrived in Wales after speculation around moves to Arsenal and Manchester United last summer.
