Federico Macheda will leave Manchester United in the summer on a free transfer, his agent has revealed.

The young Italian forward has spent time on loan at Championship side Doncaster Rovers this season, but is now back at Old Trafford, where first team chances are limited.

There had been speculation he could leave the Red Devils this month but, despite interest from clubs in his native Italy, that looks out of the question.

And now thoughts have turned to the future and an exit from Manchester United when his contract expires.

"He finished his experience with Doncaster and for my client there is only Manchester United until June", Giovanni Bia told Itasportpress.

"It is very difficult to leave the English club in this last phase of the winter transfer window.

"It is true that some Italian clubs enquired, but nothing was there and he must move on a free transfer in June.

"He will look for a serious project and at least a three-year contract."
