Real Madrid are lining up an approach for Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, according to German daily Bild.

The Spanish giants are understood to be firm fans of Casilla and are tracking the custodian closely.

Casilla, once an Arsenal target, made his credentials clear yesterday against Real Madrid, even though he could not prevent the 1-0 Copa del Rey loss.

The 27-year-old is understood to have a €20m release clause, which had been the same back when Arsenal were attempting an approach.

A former Real Madrid youth academy graduate, Casilla joined the Espanyol set-up in 2007, moving up to their senior team a year later.

His performances this season – including six clean sheets – make him a prime target for Real Madrid, who could yet see Iker Casillas depart in the summer.
