Manchester United's goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has signed a new contract that will keep him with the club until June 2017.

The youngster has been with the Red Devils since 2009 and is still awaiting his first taste of senior team action. Johnstone was however on the bench during his club's Capital One Cup victory against Stoke and the Premier League defeat of West Ham.

In the Under-21 Premier League, he has made five appearances for the club, managing to maintain two clean sheets.

An FA Youth Cup winner for the Red Devils in 2011, Johnstone has enjoyed loan spells with clubs like Walsall and Scunthorpe. He however had to cut short a three-month loan deal at Championship side Yeovil after a finger injury in August.
