FC Twente have intimated both FIFA and UEFA of an attempted fraud involving a former Inter Milan player under their names, with Tottenham Hotspur linked in.

The accused is understood to have forged the signature of the FC Twente chairman to try and engineer a sale for their striker Luc Castaignos.

Spurs initially helped discover the attempted fraud, with Twente later confirming the attempted sale.

A club statement today read: "Unbeknownst to FC Twente, a player was offered with this forged document.

"The forgery has been made known to the KNVB (Dutch Football Federation), with the request to pass it on to Uefa and Fifa and take the appropriate measures."

Castaignos has been at Twente since the summer of 2012, having joined from Inter Milan, and is also a Holland Under-21 international.
