Napoli will beat off competition from AC Milan and Roma for Saint-Etienne's Faouzi Ghoulam with a medical set for today, according to Eurosport.

Ghoulam, once a target for Liverpool, Queens Park Rangers and Torino, is poised to join Rafael Benitez's men in a reported €5.25m deal despite seeing their Serie A rivals weigh in.

The transaction will also come with bonuses, as Ghoulam becomes the newest high-profile signing following Jorginho's arrival from Hellas Verona.

A Saint-Etienne academy graduate, Ghoulam still has to complete a round of personal discussions with Napoli before the move can be confirmed

Ghoulam had been a member of France's national youth setup but swapped nationalities to Algeria, for whom he has four senior caps.

The 22-year-old left-back has been at ASSE since the summer of 2011 and was a relatively consistent performer for them, with 17 games already this season.
