Roma have denied Hellas Verona the chance to sign a loan deal for young defender Tin Jedvaj, according to Sky Italia.

Jedvaj became a hot transfer property last summer, when Tottenham Hotspur were readying a big-money move.

However, it was Roma who won that race, bringing the 18-year-old from Dinamo Zagreb on a deal until 2018.

The centre-back was, this month, being considered for a temporary stint with Verona, who are fighting for a European berth.

However, Rudi Garcia has opted not to go ahead with the move, and Jedvaj will now be expected to fight for more game time this season.

He has played just once in the Serie A since his move – seven minutes in a 4-0 win over Genoa – and has instead been playing for the youth team.

Jedvaj was a rising star in his native Croatia, making his Under-21 international debut in qualification for the European Championship, as well as making 13 first-team appearances for Dinamo.
