According to L'Equipe, Stoke want to take the 27-year-old former Hamburg man on loan until the end of the season, with an option included to make the move permanent.

Discussions are well under way between Stoke, Rennes and the player's representatives.

However, a hiccup could emerge in the form of getting Pitropia to Stoke to seal the deal.

No private plane has been chartered and the player does not know how he might get to Stoke before the window closes.
