Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has promised to ensure that Tuesday's 2-0 win over Cardiff City is not another false start, as has been the case for the team for most of the Premier League season.

There was a sense of optimism among players as well as fans last Tuesday after Old Trafford witnessed the promising debut of Juan Mata and the return of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

However, as it has been for most of the season, a sense of uncertainty still looms large over whether Manchester United can maintain their winning run.

That is why, while being asked whether the Cardiff win felt like a new start for Manchester United, Evans told his club's official website: "We have said this before after we have won games.

"We can't keep saying every time we get a win that it is going to kick-start our season. We will only be able to do that in maybe five games' time.

"We need to make sure, especially at home, that we keep performing like that."

Evans went on to insist that the addition of impact players like Rooney, Van Persie and Mata can serve as catalyst for the entire team.

"You want to get as many good players on the pitch as you can, and it increases competition for places", the 26-year-old added.
