Fenerbahce could yet see Oscar Cardozo turn out for them this season, after missing out on the Benfica forward last summer.

The Turkish club are working furiously on a late deal for Cardozo, according to Fotomac, with their transfer window due to close today.

Cardozo was being targeted by Fenerbahce last year, and the player's agent had even claimed the deal was close.

Cardozo had been linked with Cardiff City, Napoli and Spartak Moscow as well last summer, though it is Fenerbahce who are hoping to at last land him.

Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim is understood to have held talks with the Paraguayan, but it is not clear yet if he will be brought in on a loan deal only.

Cardozo has had his injury problems this season – he was out for nearly two months with back problems – but his return at the weekend hit the headlines for the wrong reasons.

He forced team-mate Lima off the ball during a late penalty kick to take it himself, but missed as Benfica drew 1-1 against Gil Vicente.
