Lionel Messi insists his injury problems are completely a thing of the past as he trains his sights on putting Barcelona back on the title trail this season.

Messi scored his first league goal for Barcelona in nine matches when he netted in the 3-2 defeat to Valencia on Saturday.

The loss, though, meant Barcelona are now in second place and three points behind Atletico Madrid.

Messi's injuries have resulted in a stuttering season for the Argentine, who was previously feared to be in danger of not being fit for the World Cup.

However, following the weekend's game, Messi was quoted by his club website as saying: "I’ve played a couple of games and I’m doing well mentally.

"It was tough when I picked up two consecutive injuries but today that’s all forgotten. For me the most important thing is to win titles.

"I would like to win them with Barca and also the World Cup, that’s the dream of an entire country."
