Sir Alex Ferguson continues to be a sounding board for current Premier League managers, with Rene Meulensteen now crediting the Scot for help when the "going gets tough" at Fulham.

Current Manchester United manager David Moyes is, of course, Ferguson's first port of call for doling out advice.

However, Meulensteen is also reaping the benfits of spending several years as one of Ferguson's assistants, especially with Fulham battling relegation from the Premier League.

Meulensteen, whose side are bottom of the table, was quoted by the Algemeen Dagblad as saying: "Sometimes I call [Ferguson] and sometimes he calls me.

"He is at his best precisely at those moments when the going gets tough and there are disappointments.

"I've never been able to discover a trace of doubt in his behaviour or in his statements.

"This attitude spills over onto the team and I want it to happen in the same way with my players."
