Hummels spent nearly two months out with a ligament injury in his ankle, and only returned in the late January clash against Eintracht Braunschweig.

The centre-back completed the full 90 minutes but is again on the treatment table and will be out for the next fortnight.

"Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has been injured on the right foot during the friendly game on Tuesday afternoon against Fortuna Dusseldorf," a statement read.

"An investigation by BVB team doctor Markus Braun revealed this afternoon that the [player] had a strain in the region of the tarsal joint.

"The injury will require, according to Dr Markus Braun about a two-week rehabilitation period."

Hummels' previous injury had come during Germany's friendly against England in November, which also saw Marcel Schmelzer sidelined.

Hummels' season aside, the 25-year-old has been linked with moves away from Dortmund, with Barcelona the most notable name.
