Stevan Jovetic has revealed that Real Madrid were in for him, but he opted for Manchester City and does not regret his decision.

The striker joined Manuel Pellegrini's men last summer from Serie A side Fiorentina, but initially struggled with injuries and getting to grips with English football.

In recent weeks he has been trusted by Pellegrini and his role is only set to grow in importance in upcoming games with Sergio Aguero out injured.

And Jovetic can feel things starting to turn.

"Surely these four to five months at the beginning were difficult because I was not playing, then I often got injured, but now it is all behind me", he told beINSport.

"I never doubted myself, even in the most difficult moments.

"I knew I could play in this team and now I have to prove it.

"I decided to come here because this is a major project with many players. I should have come here the year before, but I had a nice season with [coach Vincenzo] Montella and Fiorentina.

"There was also Real Madrid, but I chose City."

Jovetic has made five appearances for the Citizens in the Premier League so far this season, finding the back of the net once.
