Dnipro director Andriy Rusol believes that if Liverpool had moved for Yevhen Konoplyanka earlier in the January transfer window then they would have got their man.

The Ukraine winger looked set to head to Anfield as the clock ticked down towards the closure of the transfer window on deadline day last week. But news soon leaked out from Ukraine which suggested that complications could scupper it.

And the deal did fail, after Dnipro's owner refused to sign off on the sale, leaving Konoplyanka missing out on a switch to Liverpool.

Rusol feels Liverpool are destined to come back for the winger, but raised the prospect of the outcome of January's chase having been different had the Reds come calling sooner; Liverpool pursued Mohamed Salah first, but lost out to Chelsea for the Basel winger.

Speaking to Futbol 1, Rusol said: "I am one thousand per cent sure that Liverpool will try to buy Konoplyanka in the summer.

"And with a lot of experience our club will be more organised.

"If they had come a little earlier, things would have been different."
