Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes that Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu has "missed" playing for the Toffees.

The Barcelona-contracted youngster, who is on a season-long loan at Everton, is nearing a comeback from injury and has returned from Spain, where he had been working on his recovery.

That is good news for the Merseyside giants, Martinez believes, revealing he sees a young man who has incredible hunger to pull on a blue shirt and make a positive impact for Everton until the end of the season.

Speaking to Everton TV, Martinez said: "Gerard is such a positive young man and you can see he has missed being at Everton so much.

"It is an incredible reflection of what he is.

"When he arrived in the summer, he was a young man coming from Spain with an enormous talent. Now what we have is a young man coming from Spain with an enormous talent – and with an incredible desire to play for Everton.

"I am sure the fans will see the player they have seen growing and also a player with an incredible determination to be as good as he can be, and that can only be good for Everton."

Deulofeu could be involved in Everton's crunch match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Martinez having revealed he is "fully fit from a medical point of view".
