Ryan Giggs is hoping that Manchester United can sign more players of the calibre of Juan Mata.

The Red Devils smashed their club-record transfer fee to buy the Spaniard from Chelsea last month, sending £37.1m to Stamford Bridge to secure the World Cup-winning midfielder.

Giggs was delighted to see Mata arrive and now the Welshman is hoping that the Spaniard is just the first of many world-class signings as Manchester United look to rebuild following the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

"I think it was always going to be the case with [David Moyes] coming in with different ideas [that he would make signings]", Giggs told MUTV.

"Obviously, he's had a good look at all the players here at the moment but wants to stamp his own authority on the team.

"By signing Juan, it's a message of intent really that we are able to go and get great players like that and there are many more to come hopefully."

Mata has instantly commanded a spot in the Manchester United team and the Spaniard is now bidding to help last year's Premier League champions finish in the top four this term.
