FC Porto look to have dealt a whole host of clubs a blow by tying down midfielder Fernando to a new contract which runs until the summer of 2017.

According to Portuguese daily O Jogo, an agreement has been reached on an extension for the Brazil-born star, and it will contain a release clause set at the €30m mark.

Fernando's contract at Porto had been set to expire in the summer and this had put a number of sides on alert, including Liverpool, AC Milan, Manchester City and Juventus.

The 26-year-old agreeing a new deal will be a blow to his many suitors, however a €30m release clause ensures transfer speculation around the midfielder will not die down.

Fernando joined Porto in 2007 and has since established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in Europe.

He has been consistently overlooked by Brazil at international level though, with Porto's poor relationship with current Selecao coach Luiz Felipe Scolari harming his chances of late.
