Carlo Ancelotti, when at Paris Saint-Germain, saw the club ignore his request to buy Marouane Fellaini.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Ancelotti asked PSG to sign Fellaini from Everton in the summer of 2012 to bolster his midfield options.

The Italian believed he had convinced PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to move for Fellaini, but discovered when he left for Real Madrid last summer that the French champions had never initiated any contact over the Belgian.

Fellaini subsequently joined Manchester United last summer, reuniting with former Everton boss David Moyes at Old Trafford.

Fellaini had previously expressed an interest in joining PSG.

Indeed, the midfielder said in May 2013: "Paris is a great club, that's for sure.

"With the resources they have, they are now forming a great team with great players. Like everyone else, I watch the Champions League and I've seen their matches.

"Do they interest me? I can't say no to Paris Saint-Germain, a great club."
