Atletico Madrid managing director Clemente Villaverde is hoping the club don't face any action after insisting the person who threw a lighter at Cristiano Ronaldo had been identified.

Ronaldo was subject to the strange incident when players from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were walking off the field for half-time in their Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg clash yesterday.

The Portuguese, who had scored both goals in the first half, had been booked for a heavy tackle on Atletico Madrid's Javier Manquillo, which may have prompted the crowd reaction.

Atletico Madrid are in danger of sanctions from the Spanish federation, with a potential stadium ban, but Villaverde has attempted to mend fences.

"We reject any kind of attitude as [that incident]", he was quoted by Marca as saying. "That cannot happen here has there has been no encouragement for that.

"It's an isolated incident. The player has not fallen down or been hurt. We have identified the person who threw the lighter.

"Normally, you wouldn't suffer much damage from a lighter, but I'm glad that nothing has happened to Cristiano."
