Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has called on his side to build momentum, ahead of their Premier League clash against Newcastle United this evening.

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League with 47 points from 25 games after defeating fellow Champions League hopeful Everton 1-0 at the weekend.

And Sherwood urged his side to build on the win over Everton by claiming another positive result at St. James' Park, so that Tottenham’s crucial victory against Everton is not undone.

However, the manager is aware of the threats possessed by Newcastle and explained that it is not easy to play in front of the passionate and vociferous Magpies faithful.

“Everton was a massive three points for us against a team who were directly above us, so to leapfrog them was a huge plus”, Sherwood told his club’s official site.

“On their day, Newcastle can beat anyone. We know they have threats so we have to respect that, hopefully nullify what they have to offer and impose ourselves.

“You have to have character to go and play in front of a big, expectant crowd, which it is at Newcastle, and we’re hoping to keep them quiet. If we do, we can get a positive result.

“We have to concentrate on our own game and a big result against Everton will mean nothing if we can’t capitalise at Newcastle.

“It’s all about momentum, absolutely and the confidence that breeds in the team. Every game is huge now.”

Tottenham, who are just three points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool, were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle in the corresponding fixture at White Hart Lane in November.
