Gonzalo Higuain insists it was Rafael Benitez's personal touch, and not Juventus' familial one, that prompted his decision last summer, after pledging his future to Napoli.

Former Real Madrid striker Higuain is contracted at Napoli until 2018 and has been enjoying life under Benitez, with 12 league goals in 22 games.

The 26-year-old's future in June had been subject to much discussion as Arsenal emerged favourites to land him.

It has now emerged that Juventus were also eager to snap him up, though Higuain was eventually swayed by Benitez's efforts.

"Juve executives spoke to my family but I already had an offer from Napoli," Higuain told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I also received a phone call from Benitez that convinced me in no time of Napoli's project. After speaking to my father, I decided to turn down the other offers and go for Napoli.

"My future is at Napoli. I have a contract with Napoli for another four years and I am treated like a king here.

"This is an important time for me and for my career. I've been playing at the highest level for eight years and I feel physically well, and there's a great atmosphere in Naples."
