Ian Rush feels Sunday’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford will be an open game.

The Reds, who boast Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in attack, are the league’s current top scorers with 73 goals in 28 games.

And Liverpool’s fluent attacking displays under Brendan Rodgers have really impressed Rush, who feels teams are struggling to keep clean sheets in the division this season.

The former Liverpool striker is also aware of Manchester United’s attacking threats in the form of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, but Rush feels the team with the better defensive stability will come out victorious at the weekend.

“I fully expect goals as I think it will be an open game”, he told Manchester United’s official site.

“That’s one thing I’ve noticed this season in the Premier League as a whole -matches are much more open and not many teams keep a clean sheet.

“What’s exciting from Liverpool’s point of view is that in the past we’ve probably been reluctant to attack but this season Brendan [Rodgers] is having a go.

“It’s a case of ‘if you score one, we’ll score two.’ Manchester City are doing the same, so are Arsenal, and United have always done it.

“Both teams will be relying heavily on their strikers – Suarez & Sturridge and Rooney & van Persie. But getting it right at the back is also important. I think whichever team does that on Sunday is most likely to win.”

Manchester United, who are currently sixth in the Premier League with 48 points from 28 games, lost the corresponding fixture 1-0 at Anfield in September.
