Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has explained that it was great to be involved in his side’s 3-0 win over their arch-rivals Manchester United yesterday, explaining the day will not be quickly forgotten.
The Wales international, who has been in and out of the Reds’ first-eleven this season, was handed a start by manager Brendan Rodgers at Old Trafford in place of Philippe Coutinho.

Allen did not disappoint as he provided added cover in front of his side’s defence in addition to joining the attack.
In fact, a foul on him inside the box resulted in Liverpool receiving their second penalty through which they doubled their lead just after the break.

And Allen, who turned 24 years old on Friday, insisted that his involvement from the start in such a high-profile match was an ideal birthday gift for him.
"It's a great feeling to be involved in a game like that. It’s what it's all about”, the midfielder told his club’s official site.
"The hunger and desire we showed throughout the game was great. To come and pick up three points from a game at Old Trafford is a feeling I'm sure many of us will never forget.
"I'll count this as a birthday present. From a personal point of view, it was great to be involved from the start in a game like this."
Allen, who joined Liverpool from Swansea City in 2012, has made 16 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.
