Wayne Rooney insists that Manchester United wanted to pay back the club's fans after beating Olympiacos 3-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Red Devils were 2-0 down from the first leg in Greece and facing a mountain to climb, especially in view of heading into the clash on the back of a 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool.

But David Moyes' men got the job done, easing nerves when Robin van Persie was fouled in the box and then converted the resulting penalty in the 25th minute.
Van Persie then combined well with Rooney, who played him in to double Manchester United's lead just before half-time.

And then the Dutchman swept the ball home just six minutes into the second half to send Manchester United into the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.
"We deserved this big result and big performance", Rooney told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
Asked whether the side owed the fans a good performance and result, the forward replied: "Of course we do. We owe ourselves, the fans, everyone really, a good result.
"Hopefully this can kickstart our season and start something really special", he concluded.
Manchester United now head into the quarter-final draw and remain in the Champions League running, keeping alive their hopes of silverware this season.
