Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has explained that he is hopeful about his side winning the Premier League title this season, explaining they need to win trophies.

The Ivory Coast international netted a hat-trick in the Citizens’ 5-0 win over Fulham at the weekend which helped his side to move into third spot in the league standings with 63 points from 28 games, six points adrift of leaders Chelsea, who have played three games more than them.

And Toure, who insisted that he wants to stay the full length of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, explained that winning trophies are an important element in making Manchester City a great club.

"I came to the club to make history and I hope to continue to the end of my contract”, he told City TV.

"I think the club and the fans need trophies, need history and need great players to come here and try to make this club great.

"We have the team, we have the players, we have the manager as well.

"I hope at the end of the season we lift this trophy for these fans who love City."

Toure’s treble against Fulham took his goalscoring tally to 20 this season.

He is now the third Manchester City player behind Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo to cross the landmark this term, while Eden Dzeko has 18 goals to his name in the present campaign.
