Barcelona right-back Daniel Alves has revealed that his team will try to play possession-based football to deny Atletico Madrid a semi-final spot in this year's Champions League.

The two teams lock horns in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the tournament tomorrow and with the kind of form the Catalan giants have hit recently, there will be hope and optimism at the Camp Nou.

Gerardo Martino's side have won five games on the trot in all competitions, after having lost two against Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid in the space of three matches.

However, the Brazilian is confident that this is the brightest spell that his team have been in, in recent times, and they are determined to make full use of it.

"This is our best spell of the season and this is the month when it is all decided", Alves told UEFA's official site.

He added that the Champions League clash against their domestic title rivals has to be part of this spell.

"We have to play a very fluid game, with no breaks and plenty of possession.

"If we have the ball, Atletico will hardly have any chances – that's the way forward and the only way to reach the semi-finals. Have possession and take your chances.

"You have to fight to achieve things. That's why I won't settle for a draw – I play to win. We only ever play to win", the 30-year-old added.
