Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has appeared to end Manchester United's dreams of signing Toni Kroos in the summer by insisting the midfielder will not be sold.

Kroos has so far not extended a contract which is due to expire with the German club in the summer of 2015, with talks over a new deal being put on hold until after the World Cup.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich's Champions League opponents tomorrow evening, are one of Kroos' biggest fans and have been linked with a big-money bid to take the 24-year-old to Old Trafford.

But Guardiola does not want the player to be sold, even if he concedes the business decisions do not lie with him.

"Toni has another year left on his contract and he'll stay", Guardiola explained at a press conference.

"Hopefully he will extend his contract and stay with us because he is very good, he loves his game, it's not just a job for him.

"I want him to stay.

"I spoke with the player, the club and I gave my opinion.

"But ultimately, I'm the coach."
