Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has admitted that his side are “bitterly disappointed” following their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool yesterday.

Younes Kaboul’s second-minute own-goal gave the Reds an early lead at Anfield before Luis Suarez scored his 29th league goal of the season to double his side’s advantage midway through the first half.

Philippe Coutinho made it 3-0 for the hosts ten minutes after the restart and Jordan Henderson rounded off the scoring with a 75th minute free-kick.

And Sherwood, who acknowledged the fact that Spurs started poorly against Liverpool, called on his side to reclaim some of their lost pride during the season run-in.

“The game plan was to keep it tight for as long as we could and hopefully they would get a bit edgy but with all the will in the world, the game plan goes out of the window when you concede so early”, the manager told his club’s official site.

“We started poorly, gifted them two goals and unfortunately there was no way back from that. We’re bitterly disappointed.

“It was a poor start and the players don’t need me to tell them that. We made individual errors and they were punished.

"We had a chat afterwards. It was difficult for everyone, no one likes losing. We’ve six games left to try to get some pride back. That has to start next week.”

Tottenham are currently sixth in the Premier League table with 56 points from 32 matches, eight points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Sherwood’s side will next lock horns with Sunderland at White Hart Lane on 7th April.
