Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Steve Perryman has praised the current Spurs captain Michael Dawson for the desire and commitment that he shows on the field week-in-week-out.

Perryman made a record 854 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur in a career spanning 17 years spent serving the White Hart Lane outfit.

The 52-year-old is all praise for Dawson’s desire and commitment and says that he would have loved to play alongside the England international during his time at Spurs.

"He's my kind of player", Perryman told the club’s official website.

"His commitment is outstanding and he's the sort of man that you'd want alongside you in the heat of battle. “

The former England international also talked about Dawson’s commitment towards the club, which according to the 62-year-old is unparalleled.

"Michael is dedicated to Tottenham and you continually can see that in his play.

"He will always give you 100 per cent no matter what the circumstances."

Perryman won the League Cup twice in 1971 and 1973, the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982, and the UEFA Cup in 1972 and 1984. He was also awarded the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year in 1982.

In contrast Dawson has collected just one trophy during his time at Spurs, picking up the League Cup in 2008.
