Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel is delighted with his team’s recent performances but has urged the players to not get ahead of themselves and focus on their remaining games.

The Reds defeated West Ham United 2-1 on Sunday to bag an important three points and climbed to the top of the league table, two points ahead of second-placed Chelsea.

Having won their last nine league games, Brendan Rodgers’ side are on a high, and wins in the remaining five matches will ensure that they go on to clinch their 19th title; but the Slovak footballer insists that there is still a long way to go.

“There are still five games to play and we all want to keep going in this way and extend this winning run. We just need to stay focused and keep working”, Skrtel was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s site.

"Things are going well but there is still a long way to go. We can't look too far ahead. We need to keep going game to game and now our focus is on getting three points against Manchester City.

"We will look forward to that challenge. We know the atmosphere created by our fans will be amazing”, the 29-year-old added.

Liverpool will take on fellow title contenders Manchester City, who are currently third in the league table just four points behind the Reds and have two games in hand over them, at Anfield on Sunday and will be looking to continue their leadership at the top.
