Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has heaped praise on team-mate Juan Mata and lauded the Spaniard’s intelligence on and off the ball.

Manchester United paid a club record £37.1m to Chelsea for Mata in January this year. The Spaniard signed a four-and-a half-year deal with the Red Devils.

Fletcher has been very quick to praise Mata and admits that the Spaniard brings a sense of composure to the Red Devils’ play.

“He's an intelligent footballer who gives you a bit of everything: assists, goals”, the Scot told the club’s official site.

The 30-year-old also praised the former Chelsea playmaker’s intelligence while not on the ball, which allows him to take up good positions in the field of play to either give his team-mates a passing option or close down opposition players.

"Also, off the ball. Although he might not be making tackles here, there and everywhere, he reads the game fantastically.

“Seeing him playing in front of me, the position he takes up, how he is blocking off passes, he does a good job for the team as well.”

Since joining Manchester United Mata has scored three goals and provided five assists in the Premier League this season.
