Manchester United manager David Moyes has assured the supporters that Wayne Rooney will play against Bayern Munich tonight despite an injury scare.

Manchester United need to score at the Allianz Arena to have any hope of going through to the semi-finals as the first leg at Old Trafford finished 1-1, which gives an advantage to the Bavarians on the away goal rule.

Moyes is adamant that he will play Rooney tonight despite the former Everton striker missing their last league game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

"Everybody knows the character Wayne is and the kind of player he is", the Scot was quoted as saying by ITV.

The 50-year-old states that the England striker is fit and wants to play against the German champions in such a big game for the Red Devils.

"He is determined to play and if he is determined we would be mad not to [play him]."

Manchester United will hope to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in three seasons. The last time Manchester United crossed the quarter-final stage was in the 2010/11 season when they made it to the final and eventually lost to Barcelona.
