Former Manchester United player Sir Bobby Charlton is delighted to see Juan Mata play in the colours of the Red Devils and believes that he has the makings of a future Manchester United legend.

Mata joined Manchester United from Chelsea on a deal worth £37.1m in January this year. He signed a four-and-a-half year contract with the Red Devils.

Charlton, who made 758 appearances for the club, is relishing the fact that the Spaniard plays for the Red Devils now and believes that Mata could go on to become a great player for Manchester United in the future.

"I must admit I admired him the very first time I saw him play on television, but I did not think we would have the opportunity to sign him”, the 76-year-old told the club’s official site.

“He is a fantastic player already but could go on to become a great one. I'm sure that's his aim.”

The World Cup winner believes that Mata is enjoying his time at Old Trafford and thinks that there is more to come from the diminutive Spaniard.

"In the coming months and years, he will get the opportunity to score and make more goals because he is simply first class. You can already see how much he loves being here and he is a very nice man to go with it."

Charlton was one of the survivors of the Munich air disaster of 1958 and went on to captain the Manchester United team than won their first European Cup in 1968.
