Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes the Anfield club must hold their nerve as they head into the final five games of the season.

Rush has witnessed his old club put themselves into the reckoning to win their first top flight title since 1990 and tomorrow's clash against third-placed Manchester City at Anfield is being billed as a title deciding contest.

The majority of the Reds' squad do not have experience of being involved in a title race and Rush feels that the more experienced players in the group must pass on their knowledge.

"The players will have to hold their nerve, but those like Stevie [Gerrard] and Luis [Suarez] will help do that whilst the younger lads like Flanagan and Sterling will experience something new and in years to come hopefully come to expect it in every game", the Welshman told the club's site.

Rush also believes that the club's fans at Anfield have a vital role to play in pushing the team on to greater heights.

"As a player, when you feel that support it makes you want to give a little bit extra", he added.

"When you're warming up you're looking round and seeing what it means to the people."
