Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany expects his team to be able to deal with the threat posed by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Citizens head into the contest sitting four points behind the Reds, who top the table, but boasting two games in hand, making the clash vital.

Liverpool have scored goals for fun this season with Daniel Sturridge notching 20 in the league so far and Luis Suarez 29. But Kompany is confident as he feels Manchester City can not only score goals, but can defend too.

"We are playing a very good team and we know how hard this is going to be, but we will go to Anfield in confident mood", the Belgian told his club's site.

"They have scored a lot of goals – as have we – but we’ve only conceded two goals in our last seven Premier League games so we’ve been defending well, too and that will be just as important as our strikers finding the net on Sunday.

"It’s a game between two teams with slightly different styles but the same philosophy and I think it will be a very entertaining match because both teams try to score goals."

Kompany also rates Liverpool as the best team Manchester City have locked horns with this season, another sign of the tough nature of the clash for the visitors.

"We remember the match against them earlier in the season and for me, Liverpool are still the best team we’ve faced at the Etihad in the Premier League", the defender added.
