Liverpool have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge felt tightness in his hamstring during today's 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Anfield.

The Reds were forced to withdraw the England international after 66 minutes in the contest, the sight of the prolific striker being brought out of the action a cause for concern for the club's fans.

The Reds will now assess Sturridge's injury, saying in a statement: "Liverpool will assess the hamstring injury Daniel Sturridge sustained in the 3-2 victory over Manchester City over the course of the next 48 hours."

And boss Brendan Rodgers said: "We'll see [how he is] over the next couple of days.

"He felt a wee bit of tightness in his hamstring, so we'll see how that is in the next couple of days."

Sturridge has scored 20 goals in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season, second only to team-mate Luis Suarez, who has 29, in the scoring chart.
