Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool showed the world a team with spirit and quality today, after they put Manchester City to the sword 3-2 at Anfield.

Three vital Premier League points were on the line and Liverpool took a firm grip of the game, scoring through Raheem Sterling (6th minute) and Martin Skrtel (26th minute) to go 2-0 up by half-time.

But Manchester City roared back, putting Liverpool under immense pressure and scoring through David Silva and a Glen Johnson own goal to draw level.

Liverpool hung on though and got their break when Vincent Kompany miscued a clearance and Philippe Coutinho drove the ball home.

And Rodgers has wasted little time in saluting his team, who now know that if they win their final four games this season they will be champions.

"It was a remarkable performance. I thought we were incredible today", he told Sky Sports.

"The world was watching that and would see a team with so much spirit and so much quality."

The Liverpool boss was also not surprised that Manchester City came back into the game strongly.

"It's momentum", he explained.

"We were well on top in the first half, we totally controlled the game. But they've got top players and top players respond.

"They showed character and got themselves back into the game."
