Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is delighted after his side beat Kaiserslautern 5-1 in the semi-final of the German Cup at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

A strike each from Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Mario Mandzukic and Mario Gotze ensured that Simon Zoller’s goal for the Red Devils was a mere formality as the Bundesliga champions marched into the final of the knockout tournament.

The reigning cup holders won it as part of their treble victory last year, and the Spanish manager is happy with the way things unfolded despite a determined Kaiserslautern defence making it difficult in the early minutes of the game.

“Kaiserslautern were very brave from the start”, Guardiola told Bayern Munich’s site.

“We had problems in possession. We took a step forward in terms of team spirit. I’m delighted and happy with the way we kept battling.”

The Bavarians are chasing the treble again this season, and will take on Real Madrid in their first leg of the semi-final in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu on 23rd April.
