Former Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing has revealed that he has “everything crossed” for the Reds’ potential title triumph this term.

The Merseyside club, who edged out Norwich City 3-2 at the weekend, are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with just three games remaining.

Brendan Rodgers’ side need just seven points from their remaining three fixtures to win the country’s top domestic tournament after a gap of 24 years.

And Spearing, who made a total of 55 appearances for Liverpool before permanently joining Bolton Wanderers during the summer transfer window, feels Steven Gerrard deserves to win the title.

"I've got everything crossed for them to go on and win the league”, the midfielder told the BBC.

“Every single one of them deserves it, especially [captain] Steven Gerrard."

Spearing further added that winning the Premier League would be a great achievement for Liverpool, who booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League next season after a gap of four years.

"The club should have been in the Champions League year-in and year-out”, he added.

"They're now slowly getting back to where they belong, and if they can win the title along the way, that would be tremendous."
