Tottenham Hotspur have sought to distance themselves from reports they have contacted Ajax over coach Frank de Boer.

The Dutch champions confirmed that Spurs had been in touch to enquire about De Boer's availability, but Tottenham have insisted they have not made an approach to any other club.

"Reports that we have made approaches to other clubs regarding coaching staff are wholly inaccurate", a Tottenham spokesman told the BBC.

"We've not contacted any club regarding coaching appointments. We regret that a statement such as this is necessary", they added.

Speculation is rife that Tottenham will part with current boss Tim Sherwood at the end of the season following a disappointing campaign which has seen them miss out on a spot in the Premier League's top four.

In addition to De Boer, former AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is also thought to be on the White Hart Lane club's radar.
