Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is of the opinion that his side’s point against Sunderland may make all the difference in the Premier League title race this season.

The Citizens were on the brink of losing that fixture in April, but a late Samir Nasri strike, which Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone fumbled, enabled Manuel Pellegirini’s side to come out with a point from the game.

It felt like two points dropped at that time, but as Manchester City are closing in on the league title now, Fernandinho feels it was a vital point gained.

“At that time the most important thing was to win the game”, the Brazilian told his club’s official site.

“But if you look at it now, maybe that point against Sunderland at home could make all the difference in future – we will see.”

Manchester City are currently third in the Premier League table with 77 points from 35 games, three behind leaders Liverpool, who have played a game more.

The Etihad Stadium outfit will win their second league title in three years if they win their three remaining matches as they have a superior goal difference to the Reds.
