Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini feels that Juventus were the more deserving team to go through to the Europa League final.

Benfica played out a 0-0 draw against in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Juventus at the Juventus Stadium and went through to the final on the back of the 2-1 win against the Bianconeri at home last week.

“It's a pity because we think we deserved to qualify over the 180 minutes, unfortunately we did not manage that but I think only small details, or a single event, decided the whole tie”, the Italian defender told UEFA’s official site.

The 29-year-old did congratulate Benfica for their win, but believes over the 180 minutes of football the Bianconeri were the better side and feels a few small mistakes has cost them a place in the final.

“We have to congratulate Benfica because they played a good game, with great commitment.

"They are a tough team, top-class, but we feel that we were the team who deserved to qualify for the final.”

Juventus were more than eager to win the semi-final tie against Benfica as the final will take place on their home ground at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus’ European trophy drought continues for one more season. Their last European trophy was the UEFA Super Cup in 1996.
