AC Milan defender Ignazio Abate has been earmarked for a move to Tottenham Hotspur if former Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is appointed the new manager at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are expected to remove current boss Tim Sherwood from his position at the end of the season and have been linked with a number of potential replacements.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has been sounded out, but Allegri, who left his post as Milan boss earlier this season, is a serious contender and is believed to be being backed by Tottenham sporting director Franco Baldini.

And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, an Allegri appointment would result in a rapid move for Abate.
