Nigeria’s Efe Ambrose believes Scottish football is taking giant strides on the international stage and feels that the Scotland team will provide stiff competition for the Super Eagles tonight.

Nigeria will take on Scotland in a friendly at Craven Cottage as part of their preparation for the World Cup this summer.

“We don’t know who the gaffer is going to pick to play in Scotland game as he might use it to look at other players,” the 25-year-old told the official Celtic site.

The central defender feels Scotland have showed some great form in the last few games and believes that they will provide a stiff challenge to the Nigerian national team.

“No one knows what he will do yet but it will be great to play against Scotland. Having seen them play for the past five games, they have been playing superbly and they have been winning most of these games.”

The Celtic defender pointed to Scotland’s climb in the FIFA rankings as evidence of the progress that Scottish football is making.

The Scots started the year at 37th in the FIFA rankings but a recent run of good form has helped them to climb up to 22nd.

"It’s been a great turnaround for Scottish football as you can see in the FIFA rankings – they are stepping up.”
