Paul Scholes has revealed that Liverpool reminded him of Manchester United at their best last season, despite the Reds missing out on the Premier League title.

Liverpool remained in the hunt for the title until the very final game of the season, ultimately missing out on capturing the crown by just two points to Manchester City.

For Scholes, an appreciation of Liverpool took some time to sink in, but when it did, his admiration reached the highest possible level.

He wrote on his Paddy Power blog: "Last season, I didn’t take notice of Liverpool as contenders until six or seven games to go of the Premier League.

"Only then I thought they genuinely had a chance of winning the title.

"Ultimately they fell short but the thing I admired most was the swagger of their play and how they terrorised opponents, which reminded me of United at their best", the former Red Devils midfielder added.

Liverpool have returned to the Champions League for next season, while Scholes' Manchester United miss out on the competition for the first time since 1995.
